Last Quilt Club for 2012

What fun it's been and what great show and share we've seen but we'll have to wait until February, 2013 for the next Quilt club at Cloth Castle and our ever inspiring Natasha who gets us motivated every month to be the best we can be.
This room of quilters, knitters and crafter's are what keep me energized and eager to create everyday.
Enjoy these photos and I hope they are the nudge you need to finish that long list of Christmas gifts you so lovingly make for your family and friends every year.

Pretty sweet right and they all were so much fun to see and even touch, yes they are passed around  so we all can enjoy the project close up and personal!
February seems so far away but patience is a virtue so I'll try to keep that quilting Mojo going strong so I'll be able to have a few more quilts to share with my Quilt clubbers.
Here is my finished project from Christmas Cafe which is a get together that happens once a month.  I did most of it on my Embroidery machine and the hearts were sewn on by hand.  I'm pretty pleased with the end result.  I was asked who I'm giving it to because we all know that very little we keep for ourselves and I don't have anyone particular in mind.  This led to a discussion as to whether we as quilters, knitters, etc should always feel that our projects should be gifted or not.  Does the recipient appreciate the time and effort you put into your quilt, etc and will they love and take care of what you so lovingly created?   Do we let it go and know that it may be openly displayed with pride of new ownership or end up on the floor of a closet?  Let me tell you it does hurt to see a hand embroidered wall hanging lay on the floor in a basement closet.  What do you all think, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts too.

What's Up? and Monkey business

Busy working on two lap quilts for family members and completed a class for Snowmen on Parade.
Snowmen on Parade (Pattern) from Under the Garden Moon Pattern for row quilt with cotton applique and piecing. Finished size: 42" x 60".

It is a great technique quilt but the fun is in the gals you spend time doing the project with.
Though I didn't get anywhere near finished I sure did see a lot of the ladies have come a long way with theirs.  I  have some pictures taken the week before and as you can see someone had some fabric throw-up issues, we still love you Doreen!

Progress is the name of the game with these gals and boy am I behind the eight ball or Snowman!

Linda was too busy to give me her great smile, nose to the grindstone for her.

Carol, quiet and sew busy you hardly know she's quilting on the other side of the room.

Terry was able to stop her quilting to give me a great photo and I think she was the only one that was closest to having the top pieced.

Marilyn always had her project organized, actually that whole table was to be admired.  I think there is a lot to be learned from this group of ladies and how lucky I am to have the opportunity to share this class.

Diane was another quilter that almost had her top pieced and as you can see by her smile that she enjoys every minute if it.

Unfortunately Maureen couldn't finish this class after breaking her ankle and we wish her well and a speedy recovery.

Here are a few pictures of the paper piecing, don't you just love the colors.

Here is our instructor Natasha with Terry and how Natasha keeps me on track is a small miracle.

My sock monkey has been monkeying around our home lately and this is what I caught him up too. (Actually this is where I found him one morning, thanks to Hubby!)  OK, so there is a cake mix or two in my pantry but I do prefer from scratch but this monkey doesn't have time for that.  Notice the Oreo cookie on his arm, oops caught again.

And here he is again sitting in the Hubby's easy chair watching TV with his hand in a bowl of potato chips.  That monkey better watch his sodium intake don't you think and his waistline!

You never know where that monkey will show up next, who knows maybe there is a trip in his near future!

A Finish and WIP

A recent finish, a Mexican Star wall hanging.
Almost finished, the top for the quilt for my Sister-in-law who was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer, love you Elaine.
My progress on The Snowmen on Parade class at Cloth Castle with Natasha.
This is going to be a tone on tone quilt and I'm not sure how this is going to turn out but I'm liking the look so far.

Picked a winner

Sorry about the delay in picking a winner but as I said before life took over and now that things are back to normal I can pick a winner in my "Name the Featherweight."  Though I haven't selected any of the names offered I do think that my readers came up with some really cute ones so I have done a draw just for participating and my Grand daughter Brooke pulled this number from the bowl.
The winner is Robin from the blog Quilty as Charged, so I will be contacting her shortly to give her the good news that she won a charm pack and thanks to all those who thought up such fun names.

I am calling her CC because she does a quiet Click Clack when I sew with her.

Isn't She Wonderful-but she needs a name-Giveaway time.

I fell in love with her the first time I saw her and I knew we'd be BFF !  She was brought into Sawyers Sewing Center for a maintenance after this individual purchased her at an estate sale.  I was there when this gentlemen brought her in and well my heart skipped a beat, no, I probably had heart palpitations.   He intended to sell her on eBay after a quick tune-up but I knew I had to save her from that indignity. She's way too special for that and after a check-up and a new belt I made my offer and both parties came away extremely satisfied, mostly me.
So tomorrow I will take her for a little spin and we'll sew up a quilt block or two.  I must admit at one point today I had three sewing machines in my vehicle, a Bernina, Pfaff and this little Singer so I'm wondering do I need an intervention or what?  So here's the deal I think she needs a name so throw some out there and if I pick one of the names you suggest I 'll giveaway a charm pack but if there is a repeat name the one who made the first suggestion and I pick it wins the pack, so good luck.  I'm not sure how long to keep this giveaway open so let's say a week from now, Oct 30.  You don't have to follow just have some fun with this.  Life is a little crazy here so if this giveaway runs longer or shorter that's the way the Singer sews!

Accuquilt Baby Go put to work

I spent quite a bit of time going through my scraps yesterday and using my Accuquilt Baby Go cutting up this pile of small Hexies along with a few larger ones.

I wouldn't want to do all this cutting without this little beauty, it cut these out in no time flat but it sure does warp the cutting mat after several hundred hexies but I'll live with that.

Accuquilt Go machines are one of my best friends and I just love them.  Awhile ago I had a problem with my 5" and 3 1/2" square die, they were leaving a few threads uncut.  After a few phone calls back and forth with their customer service department they did send me two new dies to replace the defective ones, now that's customer service.  Thanks Accuquilt Go you stand behind your product and prove that you value your customer.

Now I have my container full of Hexies to take with me on our road trip back to the Prairies next week.   My Hubby's father and my Mom and brother are dealing with serious health issues and we need to be there so though this isn't going to be one of those celebratory visits it is never the less a trip we want to make.

Christmas Quilt stitching

Wow, hooping fabric in a quilt is no picnic but I took the plunge and am happy sew far with it.

Will this take longer than doing a stitch in a ditch, maybe, maybe not but this is a skill builder for sure.  Only twenty or more to go!
